An old idea I, finally, got around to render so I could get it out of me head. xD
The animation show the relationship between complex and hypercomplex Julia fractals, here using the quaternion set, the 3D extension of the complex plane is done with a distance estimator. Obviously this relation hold true for any fractal as long as the hypercomplex set reduces to the complex set when then 2nd and 3rd imaginary axis are zero. I considered adding some planes with field lines and doing a cut out to show more details, but it seemed a bit too educational already (not that art can not be educational
). All done with my own OpenCL render with some basic and quick ambient occlusion.
